We first visited Dambulla Cave Temples which by far is one of my favourite places to visit. I never get tired of seeing the impressive carvings and paintings in the temple. The temple has four main caves accessible to visitors, all of which contain buddhist statues from varying periods. The walls are covered in paintings and many of the statues were actually cut and carved from the granite bedrock that the caves were excavated from. I particularly like this pillow that Buddha is sleeping on, it is amazing that they can make solid rock look so soft and comfortable to sleep on.
