A few weeks ago i went to a music festival. Lots of drunk teenagers and so-so music... i thought for the first time, am i getting too old for this? But then last weekend i went to another music festival and i absolutely loved it! I think it helped that it was an 18+ event. I am getting old.

My cousin from sydney visited over xmas break and we went to see the sea lions and penguins (yes, real pengus, smallest species in the world, they were sooooooooooooo cute) that reside on some islands just south of perth. It was cool.

She really enjoyed the trip but she especially liked this sign at a shopping centre near my house.

We went up to see the Pinnacles, strange limestone formations just north of perth. They were formed millions of years ago by plant roots dissolving the limestone and then being exposed by time and erosion. They make the landscape seem even more alien than it already is.

I went to Barrow Island again (
see previous post ) for a another collection trip. This time for a specific scorpion collected only twice before in the last 25 years. Short and long story is we found it but only after a four days of tiring fruitless searches where i had firmly decided i did not like looking for scorpions because they were so damned hard to find. But of course after the first one we found lots of others. It is still being DNA tested to see if it is different from the mainland species. Its only about 10 cm long but it is a lovely glossy black and glows green in UV light (common search method for scorpions, night searches with a UV light torch).
