The Situation in Sri Lanka

Well, its been a month of confusion in terms of the so-called peace process here in this little island. i try not to be too much of a political pundit, in fact i dont think i have mentioned any 'politics' of the country in my blog as yet, so here is a small start. Suffice it to say things arent too disrupted here in the city and to the south where my sites are.
This is where i always feel a little uneasy. Life goes on here in colombo, we have the inconvenience of police and army partrols re-routing traffic and checking cars. But that is all it is. Inconvenenient. I can still get a latte and i can still go to the forest (thankfully). Sure, we have the occassional army general being blown up but it seems fairly targeted and contained.
But the situation is in sharp contrast to what is going on up north, and many people ask what IS going on up north. We hear reports of attacks on the army, army attacks on the tigers as well as civilians, citizens who had moved back to their homes during the cease-fire fleeing once again to the shores of India.
We dont get much info from the government, nor from the tigers and i am pretty sure there arent many people up there who can give an unbiased account of what is actually happening. So i feel disconnected. i think thats how people in the majority sinhalese south can just let whatever is happening to the country, just happen. They have been cut off from feeling anything for the villagers in the north that there is no longer a feeling of those people being from the same country. It makes me sad. I hope things dont spiral downwards back to the situation in the 80's. We shall have to see. Well, the ants keep on trucking, so shall I.
